Loveletters

I think I have finally gotten used enough to India to talk about it. We met several very nice people and saw many beautiful things. Still, as my post title suggests, I want to write about the one most iconic building in india: The Taj Mahal in Agra. Google this as an image and you will see some verz nice pictures, or look on Flickr if you like. All these convey some of the beauty, but not nearly all of it.

I have seldom been so truly touched by a building. It is such a grand gorgeous and lovely structure, it almost made me cry. In advance I felt sure that I would solely recognize the place as I have seen on photos, but it is still better, more impresive.

The history of the Taj starts when an old Rajs second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, dies and he is so grieved, that he built her a tomb of translucent marble. His love, I suppose, must have been very great, because it is such a thing of beauty, with endless inlay work and decoration. I look forward to showing you pictures.

You know that a place is special, when even hordes and droves of other tourists are not enough to destroy the effect. this place is like that. The gardens surrounding it are also very lovely.

Unfortunately polution is making its mark on the marble, though Agra is slowely implementing measures to stop it. Slowly.

Right now I am in Jaipur, in a hotel recomended by the lonley planet India guidebook. It is clean, relatively cheap and teh personel is nice. I love my lonely planet.

Anyway so much for now. I have gotten over my homesickness and am now taking as many pictures as I can. I hope you are also well.
